Lot Photo Description Realized
Lot 550
1849-C $1 Gold Liberty. Closed wreath. NGC graded MS-62. Fully pulsating with lovely orange-gold color, the surfaces are free of bothersome striking incompleteness which is unusual for this early P-Mint coinage. Struck with uncommon exactitude by the dies, leaving only a few stars on the left weak.
Estimated Value $375 - 400.
Frank McCarthy Collection.

Lot 551
1849-C $1 Gold Liberty. Closed wreath. NGC graded MS-61. Beams of frosted mint luster and rich tawny orange-gold hues. Desirable with this precision strike and unusual for 1849-C. The stars are complete, as is the hair curl detail on Liberty. Even Liberty's coronet inscribed LIBERTY shows the 13 tiny pearls or beads along its border. Were it only possible for all Liberty Type 1 dollars to look like this!
Estimated Value $300 - 330.

Perhaps the only weak area consists of a few hair curls above the ear and below the end of the coronet (PCGS # 7513) .

1874 $1 Gold Indian. PCGS graded MS-62. Weak strike in the hair and on LIBERTY at the headband, it is believed this is caused by die polishing to remove clash marks, since most 1874 dollars are weak in these areas (PCGS # 7575) .

1874 $1 Gold Indian. PCGS graded MS-62. Nice light golden toning. The surfaces are a modest orange gold, with subtle satin than bright frosted luster. A weak impression was left by the rebound of the (possibly dilapidated) dies that struck this, showing a lack of detail in much of the hair and most of the incuse LIBERTY gone from the headband (PCGS # 7575) .
